Budget Reduction Announced

Office for Civil Society has today announced £11m of savings from its 2010/11 resource budget - as part of wider package of savings across Cabinet Office. As a contribution to those savings, Capacitybuilders’ overall budget for 2010/11 has been reduced by £1.3m.

Public service commissioners welcome collaboration and merger between civil society support providers

Research published by Capacitybuilders shows the majority of public service commissioners would like to see greater collaboration and merger between organisations that provide support and advice to civil society groups.

The findings of the report show that commissioners think mergers can deliver a positive impact across a range of areas including: simpler funding relationships and easier engagement with the voluntary and community sector.

Latest survey of support providers shows mergers on rise as demand for services continues to increase

Survey findings released today show that demand from frontline groups is continuing to increase, while more support providers report a reduction in their income. Nearly half of all support providers stated that they are continuing to cope well.

New support resource for people managing volunteers

Capacitybuilders is pleased to report the launch of a new online volunteer management portal that has been created using funding from our Volunteer Management programme, supported by the Office for Civil Society.

Managed by Volunteering England, it acts as a gateway to the world of volunteer management with links to over a thousand resources across England - meaning that, for the first time, information on support, training and development opportunities for people managing volunteers is available to view in one single place.

Sustainability report - five new case studies published

Five new sustainability case studies have been published by Capacitybuilders as a follow up to the March 2010 report which explored how support providers can make their services more sustainable.

In addition to the publication of these case studies, Capacitybuilders also held a sustainability event in June to provide an opportunity to consider the report in more detail.

Evaluation shows the RCAN Investment Programme has benefitted rural communities

An interim evaluation, published today by Capacitybuilders, confirms that the £10.35 million Rural Community Action Network (RCAN) Investment Programme, delivered by Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) on behalf of Defra, is meeting its objective to improve the way in which the needs of rural communities are addressed by national, regional and local government.
