Capacitybuilders launch new three year funding programme to invest in strategic change at a local and regional level

23/12/2007

Capacitybuilders has announced the roll-out of a new three year funding investment programme - to support strategic change and modernisation in the way support for third sector organisations are supported at local and regional level.

Funds available

The £30 million fund for 2008-11 has two principle strands, both of which will commence in April 2008:

  • £12m in consortium development grants to local and regional consortia, tied to agreement of delivery of core roles and strategic outcomes, and a clearer relationship with Capacitybuilders.
  • £18m modernisation project fund, to help achieve a step change in the way third sector support services are delivered locally and regionally.

Feedback from the sector, key to programme's development

The development of the programme has been informed by many of the helpful comments and questions put forward to Capacitybuilders during consultation on Destination 2014, the recommendations of an external review of the consortium model – carried out earlier this year - and commitments in the Third Sector Review.

Building on current successes

Tightening of resources has meant a thorough review of what can be achieved.  With the new three year consortium development grants, Capacitybuilders is making a renewed commitment to build on successes to date, and support a strategic role for consortia, and in particular, to make links with local public sector decision makers.

Who can apply?

The Strategic Change programme, is only open to local and regional consortia, and will focus £18m project funding on the 'modernisation' of sector support services.

Programme aims

Capacitybuilders wants its funding to help ensure more effecive and efficient services to the frontline, and expects a range of projects highlighted in consortia business plans, to be funded under the programme.

Resources are more limited that in previous years, and Capacitybuilders will only be able to support a limited number of projects in each region.

Key challenges

Modernisation of sector support services remains a key challenge in delivering Destination 2014 - the strategy for the delivery of ChangeUp - and this funding programme will help local support services to prepare for a more competitive and demanding funding environment in the future.

Linking in with other programmes

Investing in Strategic Change is the third investment programme that Capacitybuilders has announced in recent months; following in the footsteps of Improving Reach and the National Support Services programme.

All of these programmes will commence in April 2008 and run for three years.

Further funding to be announced in the New Year

Early in the New Year, Capacitybuilders plans to announce details of its Learning and Innovation fund along with a new programme for social enterprises.
